On March 28, Troop 92 Eagle Scout Daniel D’Souza passed his Board of Review to become the first Scout in the Connecticut Rivers Council to earn the BSA Distinguished Conservation Award. In order to earn the award, Daniel needed to complete two conservation projects (each in a different category), earn seven conservation related merit badges, and pass a Board of Review. He completed both his projects at the Quinnipiac Valley Audubon Society’s Riverbound Farm Sanctuary here in Cheshire where he removed invasive species and planted a pollinator garden. The BSA Distinguished Conservation Award replaced the Hornaday Award in October 2020.
Troop 92 had their Spring Court of Honor on April 25. The troop had many scouts achieve new ranks, 1 scout achieved Scout rank. 2 scouts achieved Second Class rank. 1 scout achieve First Class rank. 1 scout achieve Star rank. 2 scouts achieve Life rank, and D. Desena and W. Johnson Jr. achieving the highest and most challenging rank of Eagle Scout. The troop also were given their new positions based off of the recent elections.
Troop 92 went on a joint campout with Troop 51 from Cheshire CT. The troops camped at Camp Workcoemen from March 17th, to March 19th. Although the troop slept in different cabins, they did get together to have a chess tournament and to enjoy a campfire together while performing skits and telling stories. Early Saturday morning Troop 92 went for a sunrise hike. The hike to longer than expected and the scouts just missed the sunrise, but the scouts still enjoyed the hike through the snow while using maps and a compass for orienteering.
Troop 92 had their winter Court of Honor on February 16. The troop had many scouts achieve new ranks specifically Tenderfoot where we had 8 scouts achieve. The troop also had 3 scouts achieve a very difficult and important religious award called The Pillars of Faith. We also had one scout earn 100 night of camping and one other scout earn an incredible 200 nights of camping. Congratulations to all the scouts that earned or achieved recognition at the Court of Honor.
This weekend one of our scouts, Daniel D’Souza participated in the Catholic Scout Retreat in People’s State Forest. They canoed along the Farmington River and learned about the Rosary
